SUMMARY:Orange Shirt Day: Community Beading Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Orange Shirt Day\, also known as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation\, is observed every year on September 30\, and throughout September. In this workshop\, led by Shelley Bourgeois\, we come together in the spirit of community building and reflection\, and to honour both the victims and survivors of residential schools. \nParticipants will learn how to bead an orange shirt pin that they can wear on Orange Shirt Day. Please note\, the beaded pins take 2+ hours to complete. \nThis program is free and open to 14+. Materials are provided. Bring reading glasses and snacks if needed! \nDonations are welcome to help cover the cost of supplies. \nSpace is limited. Please RSVP below.

SUMMARY:Perth Orange Shirt Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Orange Shirt Day Ceremony is an Indigenous Elder led Ceremony including drumming\, singing and Pipe Ceremony. The Ceremony is to remember and honour the children who attended Residential Schools. The Ceremony will include telling some of the stories from those who attended the schools and include information that increases our awareness of the impact on individuals and the inter-generational trauma that has occured as a result. The Residential School system is a tragic part of Canadian history\, becoming more informed and developing understanding is part of the commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. \nOn October 4th\, families\, survivors\, and communities gather in circles to remember our loved ones who never came home. Sisters in Spirit Vigils are not just Oevents\, they are sacred spaces where we honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women\, girls\, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals (MMIWG2S+). At the heart of every vigil are the families who carry stories of unimaginable loss\, and the survivors who courageously share their truths. These vigils belong to them. By gathering\, we lift up their voices\, hold space for their healing\, and promise that their loved ones will never be forgotten.\nSisters in Spirit began to name and remember those taken from us. Today\, it has grown into a nationwide movement that refuses to let silence or inaction prevail. Each vigil adds to a chorus of voices demanding truth\, justice\, and safety for Indigenous women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people.
